The HELLFIRE Self Timing Brake system is not just another knockoff copy of existing self timing brakes. It was engineered from the ground up to be extremely effective, easier to install, and much more versatile. Read more on all of its advantages below:
Caliber Selection
In order to simplify the choices, we have four caliber selections available for the HELLFIRE brake. The difference in efficiency between using a caliber specific brake bore, and the next size up is so minimal if not non existent that we decided to simplify things in order to lower overall costs to you the consumer. As you can imagine, trying to stock the exact quantities required of six or so different calibers would be impossible.
223/6mm – Good for any bullet caliber up to and including 0.243 (6mm), ie 223, 5.56 NATO, 204, 17 cal, etc
6.5mm – Good for any bullet caliber up to and including 0.264 (6.5mm), ie 257, (Magnums OK)
7mm/308 – Good for any bullet caliber up to and including 0.308, ie 7mm, 284, 270, (Magnums OK)
338 – Good for any bullet caliber up to and including 0.338, ie 338WM, 338LM, 338NM, 338 Edge. See our Sidewinder brake for ultimate reduction on these cal’s
Notable Features

– Simply torque the universal adapter onto your barrel with a 5/8″ wrench, this piece never has to come off. Next, LEFT HAND thread the brake/collar assembly onto the adapter until it is almost snug. Now rotate the brake until it is level, push the brake into the adapter and you will feel it lock onto the taper. Now tighten the collar fully by hand, and you are done!

Maintenance
Maintenance on any muzzle brake is essential. Just like your barrel, muzzle brakes need cleaned. Over time carbon will build up in the ports, mainly the last port as the first two are semi-self cleaning from the muzzle blast. When this carbon builds up, it will eventually get to the point that bullets can actually strike it. Depending on your shooting regimen you may not notice this, you might just call it a flier. But in a competition when you need every round to impact, this is critical. Carbon bullet strikes are a worst case scenario, but the buildup can also cause accuracy or POI issues just due to airflow changes in the brake ports.
NOTE: The use of Lemishine (or any citric-acid cleaner) or CLR to clean your brake will likely discolor the black nitride, and will void the lifetime warranty of your product. Don’t do this. Seriously. It’ll turn pink and you’ll feel like an idiot.
- The best cleaning method for any muzzle brake is PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. If you clean the brake every time you clean the barrel (200-400 round intervals, shorter for 6mm rounds) it will make your life much much easier. With that being said, just soak the brake in a carbon cleaner like Boretech C4 and all the carbon should come right out, especially if you have a Black Nitride brake. Raw stainless brakes can be more challenging to clean because the surface is more porous. If necessary, you can use any kind of cleaning brush to aid in the removal of carbon from the ports. Black Nitride is harder than any material they attach to a brush, so you will not scratch the surface. Raw stainless may scratch if you use a stainless or other harder bristle brush.
- If you decide to wait until 1000 rounds or more, you will have a lot of carbon buildup in the 2nd and 3rd port which will take some effort to remove. Best method here is probably to soak for a day or two in C4 and use a pick to get the big chunks out. Then follow the above method to get the remainder off.
- You should also clean your Universal Adapter with the same care. Every time you clean your barrel, let the carbon cleaner from patching the barrel soak on the muzzle for a few minutes and use a q-tip to wipe any carbon from the barrel crown and inside the end of the adapter. Soak a patch in carbon cleaner and wipe the taper surface of the adapter off. If there is persistent carbon on the surface, use steel wool to remove, it will not damage the surface.
- Brakes should not be placed in a wet tumbler, specifically not one with pins or media of any sort. The small pins can work their way into the collar/retaining ring area, and this is likely to compromise the integrity of the retention device in the brake. Foreign material here can result in the brake becoming a projectile. This is not safe, and will void the product warranty.

(Feedback and a question) The hellfire is a great piece. Especially for a beginner shooter. Easy install. Great recoil reduction. My only issue is that the adapter tends to come loose from the barrel threads (Tikka T3 CTR – 6/5 Creed) after a dozen shots or so. Is it OK to use thread locker on these, or is that a no-no? I haven’t used a torque wrench to confirm torque but it seems like as tight as I put it on there (without over tightening) it won’t stay fixed. Not sure if you can respond here, but any advice is appreciated.

Installed the Hellfire brake on my FN 300 Blackout Riffle, as well as my 300 Blackout and 6.5 Grendel pistols. I feel that all three firearms have benefited from this brake. The recoil is greatly reduced, but the muzzle jump is almost completely eliminated. I’ve used other self timing brakes before, but all of them seemed to loosen with use, or are a PITA to align and tighten correctly. I like the mounting design as the snap-ring engages on the conical face on the mount. Once its tightened it stays in place. I have two Hellfire Match brakes on my 18″ DD5 V2 308 and my 18″ 6.5 Grendel. Very pleased with the fit, finish, performance, and overall quality. My Buddy was so impressed with the Hellfire’s on my two pistols, he bought one for his new 6.5 Grendel pistol. Currently there are a lot of Muzzle Brakes on the market, you can spend a lot more money, but I don’t think you’ll find a better brake at this price point.

On my Bergara B14 HMR the brake bottomed out on the crown not the shoulder. An AR10 crush washer works but looks bad.
Area 419 should make this known in the description and add, or offer for sale, a shim kit.

We can only make our adapters to a spec depth of about .640″ of thread. The general spec for 5/8-24 muzzle thread length is either .600″ or .625″ depending on how you ask. If your muzzle threads are longer than that, I suggest you reach out to Bergara as it’s a manufacturing issue on their end. If this gam exists and the thread length is .600″-.625″ you should shoot us an email, as your adapter has a manufacturing issue that’s on our end and we are more than happy to replace. No person should need to use a shim to install this on a properly machined muzzle.

The only thing that I could put as a slight negative is that it requires rockset or blue loctite…. However it doesn’t include it, I had some of both so it wasn’t a big deal at all.
That being said, I’ve bought a few higher end muzzle devices for various rifles. For example when you buy a Surefire muzzle device it comes with a very small “vial” (probably the wrong word for that) of rockset. I think for the money being paid for the Area 419 brake it should include that. (Surefire’s are roughly $150, so we are in the same ball park) again I had it, so not the end of the world but it would have been just that little extra step.

The instructions should emphasize more clearly that that muzzle break mount is tightened in FT/ LBS. Not a huge deal, but most adjustments on the gun are in IN/LBS. I missed it in first pass and discovered it when tightening on the muzzle break and found the mount breaking free. A “NOTE” or “WARNING” or something in the instructions would draw attention to this. Hand tightened collar just a little bit after 10 rounds and then again a few rounds later as per instructions, did not come loose after 120 rounds. Still hasn’t come loose. Just put one on a .340wby factory Mark V shooting 200 grain bullets at 2900FPS and it is a joy to shoot. My gun went from nearly breaking my collar bone to vey mild. I have a 13LB .308 and I would say the recoil in comparable. At this point I would literally let my 6 year old that weighs 45LB soaking wet shoot this gun. I was pleasantly surprised though I don’t know why everything I’ve gotten from Area 419 has been top notch! Don’t hesitate to put this on any magnum you want to tame just don’t forget the ear plugs cause its LOUD but you don’t get that smack in the face concussion I’ve gotten from other brakes.

I replaced the terrible muzzle brake that came on my POF 308 with one of these puppies, and it made a huge difference. The weapon didn’t jump off target anymore, and the recoil was very manageable. It does send quite the shockwave down the line though. I thought my daughter and brother were kidding about the blast until I was caught in it. It is…. substantial. The muzzle break definitely did it’s job. However, I normally shoot suppressed and was unable to purchase the adapter as it is not currently available. I feel like I have half a puzzle at the moment. In addition, when running my trusted load over the chronograph I was getting different results from what it normally produces. Perhaps more testing is needed but It doesn’t seem as simple as switching from break to suppressor and getting the same result. I’m looking forward to when the adapter for the suppressor comes available and will purchase it. I like the idea of switching back and forth between both options however it may not be feasible for the type of shooting I do.

This was my 2nd Hellfire break order. Very satisfied with the first. There was a notable reduction of recoil on the 6.5 PRC. This order was for a 6 ARC that the base adapter would support the Maverick on both the 6.5 PRC and the 6 ARC. The Maverick looks great, just need to wait on my stamp to get to play with it. The brake was well packaged in a form-fitting dense foam insert inside a very nice and thick cardboard box….there was no way for it to get damaged during shipping.
This muzzle brake is everything you’d want in such a device!! I installed this on my Bergara B14 HMR 6.5 Creedmore yesterday. With the included instructions and YouTube video, installation was quick and simple.
The precision, finish and fitment of this brake leaves nothing to be desired. It is perfect and well worth the price.
The performance of this brake is exceptional! Recoil reduction is at least 50%. Before the brake was installed, recoil and muzzle jump was so much that I had to use reduced magnification in order to see my hits or misses on steel at 600 yards. With this brake, I can use full magnification (24x) and easily maintain a visual on the target at 600 through the scope no problem.
With this brake, the recoil of my 6.5 Creedmoor is now down to about .223 levels, maybe a tad more. But there is no more sore cheek at the end of a box or two of ammo, and no more stiff neck from absorbing so much recoil.
Even my friend, who has shot my rifle before the brake was installed, commented on how the rifle doesn’t jump like before. When he shot it, he said it felt almost as soft as his .223.
I am 100% satisfied with this brake. I will without a doubt order more products and services from Area419!

Wow just WOW! I installed the Hellfire brake on my brand new rifle and liked how it felt but was pretty loud. I removed the Hellfire brake, just to see what it would feel like, and noticed a big difference in increased felt recoil and was so jumpy that I’d lose the target through my scope. I quickly reinstalled the HellFire brake and was able to keep the target through my scope. It really does feel like a 50% reduction in recoil. I highly recommend to get one!

This brake is fantastic. I run the 30 cal brake on a 6.5 creed defiance barreled action in an aics stock. The recoil impulse is soft and straight to the rear, so much so that I can easily watch my own impacts at 100 yards while shooting on 15-20 power. Installation is a cake walk, and being able to take the brake off for cleaning makes life a lot easier. I am now considering getting my hunting rifle threaded to use the same brake to make follow up shots quicker in the field. Buy with confidence.

I’ve been a user of Muzzle Brakes for years. I’ve alway been left disappointed with their installation and damage to the finish after several cycles of install and removal. The Area419 brake is an amazing asset. I frequently shoot tactical style matches and F-Class. The latter requires removal of any brake. The way that this brake installs, times, and is removed is a dream. It reduces recoil enough that kids can enjoy shooting large rifle cartridges. The machine work on this brake is beyond compare. My PVA Mad Scientist brake has sharp edges, and marks from poor machining. The Hellfire is quite simply the best brake I’ve had the pleasure to use. I will be purchasing many more. Yes, the Universal Adapter and Brake is the core of the system. It works and it works well!…but it just the beginning of the overall Hellfire system.
I have two brakes, a .30 cal and a 6.5, a direct thread mount w/an AAC Brakeout suppressor mount on it, and a thread protector. I also have 5 Universal adapters and will be purchasing more.
With that selection of attachments and with my firearms already having the appropriate Universal Adapter on them, I can mix-n-match the attachments at will from rig-to-rig-to-rig.
Suppressor on the .308? No problem…put the direct thread adapter on and mount the AAC suppressor.
Brake on the 5.56 AR?…No-problem…mount the 6.5 Brake on it.
Shooting F-Class with the 6.5 Creedmoor and can’t use a brake or suppressor? No-problem…spin-on the thread protector and have at it…THEN mount the 6.5 brake for PRS practice that afternoon!
No other system even comes close! The cost of this system is FAR below the VALUE of it. I’ll not buy anything else for this purpose.

I had a Terminator brake on my .338 Lapua but could never use my Magneto speed chronograph as it was just to long, when my Area 419 brake arrived I was a bit skeptical about it as the Terminator brake works so well with recoil reduction and this unit is so small I figured there was no way it would be as effective.
Well I installed the unit to give it a try and was I blown away, I would say it is just as effective as my previous brake and I could stay on target the entire time after the shot without any problem and makes follow up shots a breeze.
I am a machinist and the fit and finish on the product is absolutely top notch along with the fact it is small enough to use with my chronograph now the design makes it extremely easy to remove for cleaning the rifle.

Area 419 Hellfire Self Timing Brake Review
This thing is loud, people will hate you… people will want you to leave the range… people may leave the range because of you. It’s louder than any other brake I’ve used on a 30 cal.
That being said: This is the best brake I have ever used on a 30 cal. It’s staying on my RPR 🙂
Packaging:
Simple, easy. You’re not paying for them to package this thing up all pretty, which is good. It also comes well packed… which means you will receive it in perfect condition, which is also good.
Installation:
Screw that thingy on and then that thingy on, time it, push on it and tighten the collar.
Seriously though it takes less than 15 minutes to mount both pieces, time and secure. Check out the nicely written, straight forward instructions and/or youtube videos by the creator Jon Addis.
Aesthetics/Finish:
Looks damn good! Machining is excellent, no burs or rough spots. The nitride finish on mine was perfect. Even finish throughout the device and smooth as well. Looks and feels more expensive than it is.
It also looks nice on your rifle! The ports have a nice aggressive look to them, but they are completely functional.
Performance:
Okay… so this thing is loud and annoying to anyone next to you, or standing 45 degrees behind you to the left or right. People asked me if I was shooting a heavy magnum… its that loud.
Now… even though it was annoying to the people around me, they asked what brake it was, as they said it looks like you’re shooting a .22 due to the complete lack of recoil impulse.
I am not kidding you. This brake makes my .308 feel like a .223… IF THAT. I know this is subjective to each person… but I will guarantee you, anyone will notice a difference with it on.
An older gentleman at the range sent a few rounds down range with my RPR, and his face lit up. He said he barely felt it. He also liked the RPR Image;).
The slightly upward flares on the ports are just enough to keep the muzzle down and on target, they are also flared rearward to keep the rifle from kicking backward to reduce felt impulse. It’s the perfect balance of compensation and braking. Truly excellent design, and its such a simple design.
I could watch my impacts through my glass 100 and beyond. I have had top ported brakes that would still want to muzzle hop on me. Follow up shots were just a breeze… I only needed a split second of correction to send another on target. For steel; I was able to blast through my 5 round mag so quickly and accurately, that I wished I had a 30 rounder loaded and ready to go.
I directly compared this to my Gen 2 “Hybrid Brake”, and I feel that this brought down the recoil impulse noticeably, but, it also controlled the muzzle far better than the Ruger brake.
I shot 100 rounds in this session, and my shoulder was ready for more! I forgot to re tighten the collar after for first 10 shots (as instructed in the manual)… but all was well. I remembered after shot 50… and I couldn’t get it to tighten… so I don’t think its going anywhere as long as you give it a good twist before shooting or during initial install. Might be wise to check after the first 5-10 shots… but its design does lend itself to be secure with just a good hand tightening.
Couple all this with how easy it is to remove and clean, or remove and install your suppressor… its a no-brainer and a thoughtful design.
TLDR:
Loud AF, outperforms its BARK.
If you live in a state that does not allow suppressors or you don’t want to spend cash on one… or just want (IMO) the best recoil reduction you can get for the price…. Go get one 😉

The Hellfire Brake is the most innovative muzzle brake/suppressor adapter on the market. The ingenuity and fit/finish of this brake is very impressive out of the box, but the performance also really shines. After switching to the Hellfire I was able to see my trace more often (especially off barricades) and my follow up shots were quicker due to decreased recoil and muzzle blast direction away for the shooter. This will soon be the most run brake in the PRS
